Martha often used to referred to me as a “modern woman.” She believed in equality and was happy to see that the world was changing to allow women to work and raise children the way they chose to. She was excited for the choices Avery and Amelia would have when they grew up.

Martha was always very kind and welcoming to me. The last time I saw her, she made it a point to let me know that if I needed anything or had any questions about my treatment for breast cancer, that she had beat it herself (twice!!) and would help in any way she could. Her strength and encouragement really moved me..

Martha was more than a good friend. She was my big sister. I had only met Martha once before my husband passed away in November, 2016. I did not really know her then. But not long after my husband passed, I received a phone call from her. She offered me help if I needed it and told me she understood the pain a surviving spouse goes through. I have known Aunt Martha for as long as I can remember. Truly. I think I even remember my mom saying that I met Alvin when he was 6mo old and I was 1 year old. Alvin’s father and my father were the best of friends. I can remember so many times when Auntie/Uncle/Alvin would come to our house – one Wang family to another.
